There's a difference between filling out your profile and optimizing your profile for conversions. When I optimized my profile effectively, I started getting more inquiries about my services as well as an increase in my conversion rate.
Follow these steps to optimize your profile for success.
#1: Turn on creator mode
The first thing you want to do is turn on creator mode. This gives you access to creator tools like LinkedIn live, LinkedIn audio events, Newsletters and the services page which is a super important for freelancers. Also turning on creator mode means your profile appears a little differently from those who do not have creator mode turned on. So when optimizing your LinkedIn profile, your first action should be to turn on creator mode to get access to all the creator tools available.
#2: Update your banner to match your brand.
Your banner is like your pages billboard. It's pretty much the first thing everyone sees when they visit your profile. So you want to update your banner to represent your brand at all times. Include your title, a picture of you, your brand message or your I help statement and a way for people to reach you.
#3: Update your headline
The next very important thing on your LinkedIn profile is your headline. Add keywords, that describe specifically what you do and who you help. Do not confuse your ideal client with your headline by adding multiple services that you provide, like - virtual assistant, freelancer, book keeper, email management, social media, lead gen. That's too much, and no one will take you seriously.
If someone chooses to hire you with a headline like that, best believe they will basically want you working for them for free. And those are the people you want to repel.
It's best to simply write your I help statement and add relevant keywords your ideal client is using to find you on your headline. Simple is always better.
#4: Update your services
Your services page is very important especially as a freelancer. This gives you an opportunity to add services you provide and collect customer reviews. You have the ability to share that specific page to anyone who might want to learn more about the services you provide, as well as share this page on your feed to remind your followers on the specific services you provide.
#5: Your About Section
One thing you need to understand is your LinkedIn about section isn't about you, it is about your ideal client. It is not meant for you to talk about all of your degrees, or awards, or publications, or boost about your accomplishments. There's a section for that on your profile and it's called accomplishments. Your about section is about your ideal clients. Think of it as your sales page where you take your ideal client on a journey. Address your ideal client in your about section, their pain, struggles, desires, how you can help, and why you are the best person to help them get to their desired outcome.
#6: Complete your profile
Make sure you complete your profile to get the 5* rating that indicates you have completed your profile. You rank higher in the LinkedIn algorithm if you complete your profile. And when you rank higher, you are recommended more when someone is searching for your services, and also, your content has a better chance of reaching more people which is what we want.
#7: Add key words
Use keywords in every section on your LinkedIn profile. LinkedIn is a search engine platform, so people find your by using keywords. You want your profile to be recommended to the right people and you want the right people to find you.
Random keywords leads to random search results. If you use random keywords on any section of your LinkedIn profile, you will attract random people who are not your ideal clients, and that doesn't help you with the algorithm. It confuses the algorithm, and that is what you want to avoid. So use keywords your ideal clients are using to search for you. This dictates to the algorithm who to recommend your profile as well as your content to.
#8: Updating your profile is an ongoing process
The last thing you want to understand with regards to updating and optimizing your LinkedIn profile is knowing that it is an ongoing process. You are consistently evolving as a freelancer, you consistently learn about who you servea and how best to serve them. Because you are consistently learning, your messaging is evolving as you evolve, so you need to continue to update your profile as you grow. It's important to always go back to profile to make sure it represents what is happening in your business, as well as what your brand represents at every moment. So updating your profile is not a once and done thing, it is an ongoing continuous process.
